ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University soccer team had a day scoring eight goals while earning a shutout over the University of Minnesota Morris on Tuesday for Senior Day. The Wildcats honored four seniors and three fifth-years with all seven starting in the game against the Cougars. The win advances the Wildcats to 9-4-2 overall with three regular season games remaining on the schedule.
Scoring was early and often in the match-up with the Cougars as fifth-year
Lauren Witte knocking one in less than three minutes into the non-conference game.
St. Kate's second goal was scored two minutes later with first-year
Maddi Springer getting her first collegiate point unassisted at 4:26. St. Kate's held a two-goal lead for the next 15 minutes when Witte added her second of the game and seventh of the season at 20:51 starting a four-goal run for the Wildcats.
The team's fourth and fifth goals of the game were scored by senior
Amanda Elton for her tenth of the season less than 40 seconds between the two. Just twenty-five seconds later, junior
Kallan Tuominen gave St. Kate's s 6-0 lead with help from Witte headed into the half.
A pair of first-years were responsible for the final two goals of the game each scored in the second half. First-year
Natalie Pfleger from the back of the net cleaning up a rebound off Elton's shot while first-year
Taylor Takeuchi was in the right spot to received a pass from sophomore Hannah Rajvong for both of their first collegiate points.
The Wildcats had 21 shots on goal in the game Elton with six and Witte with three. Senior
Molly Rudolph started the game for the Wildcats while junior
Kelsey Dugan rounded out the contest with neither keeper facing a shot.
The Wildcats return to conference play on Saturday for a 1 pm contest against Augsburg at home. The will close out the home season Tuesday, hosting Carleton College at 3:30 pm and wrap up the regular season Saturday, October 29 at St. Olaf College at 12:30 pm.
