ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine soccer team suffered their first loss of the season as the Saint Mary's University Cardinals downed the Wildcats, 2-1 at St. Kate's Field on Saturday.
The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) contest was a battle of the top ranked teams in the league with the Wildcats holding the majority of possession and winning the shot count 19-6.
St. Mary's got the best of St. Kate's early taking a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute off of their first shot on goal. The score remained 1-0 Cardinals until the 72nd minute with senior
Lauren Witte netting her first goal of the season unassisted.
The Cardinals scored five minutes later off a rebound from a free kick for the game winner despite the Wildcats' continued fight until the last seconds of the game.

Amanda Elton led the shot count for the Wildcats with four shots and three on net. Witte recorded three shots all on goal while senior
Sofia Campbell tallied four shots, two of which were on net.
