MOORHEAD, Minn. -- St. Catherine softball (10-6, 5-1 MIAC) extended their Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) win streak to five on Sunday with a double header sweep of the Concordia College Cobbers (12-12, 0-6 MIAC).
GAME ONE | St. Catherine 6, Concordia 4
Annabelle Schutte earned the win after allowing three runs in five innings in the circle while tallying three strikeouts and two errors. Rookie
Kelsey Berndt pitched the final two innings giving up the Cobbers final run.
St. Kate's scored first in game one with Schutte driving junior
Lindsay Burr in the top of the second. The Cobbers added three runs to take the lead in the bottom of the third. Burr made it around the bases again in the top of the fourth with help from sophomore
Alyssa Montero to trail by one. Concordia scored their final run of the day in the bottom of the fifth off an error in the outfield for a 4-2 lead.
The Wildcats rallied from behind scoring two more in the sixth and seventh with Burr crossing home for the third time in the game with help from Montero again. Montero went on to score the tying run at 4-4 off a single from Schutte in the top of the sixth. The final two runs were credited to sophomore
Taylor Brunn and junior
Olivia Beaulieu for the 6-4 win.
Burr was 3 for 4 with three runs, two doubles, one RBI, and four putouts.
GAME TWO | St. Catherine 8, Concordia 0 (5 innings)
Kathryn Proper claimed the win in game two allowing just three hits with three strikeouts and zero runs in five innings.
St. Kate's took an early 4-0 lead in the opening inning over the Cobbers. Junior
Angela Huepfel scored the first run for the Wildcats in game two after Montero was hit by a pitch with bases loaded. First-year Kaitlín Boyles hit her first career triple to right field driving in Montero, senior
Alyssa Wicks, and Burr.
Brunn hit her first career triple in the top of the second inning and scored the fifth run off Huepfel's single to left field. Brunn recorded the RBI on the sixth run of the game bringing senior
Mikayla Grant across the plate. The final two runs were scored in the top of the fifth with Schutte pinch-hitting for Brunn and reaching first off an error in the outfield. Schutte's hit drove in rookie
Lynae Doty and sophomore
Shannon Leahy for an 8-0 victory.
In addition to both hitting their first career triples, Brunn and Boyles were both 2 for 3 in game two with Boyles tallying three RBI to Brunn's one.
St. Kate's travels to Hamline University on Tuesday to play the postponed game due to weather that was originally scheduled on Wednesday, April 7. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:30 pm in St. Paul.
