MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University soccer team traveled to Concordia Moorhead on Sunday afternoon for a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) matchup topping the Cobbers 2-1.
Junior
Lauren Witte put St. Catherine on the board at 30:32 in the first half with help from junior
Taylor Johnson. St. Kate's second goal came at 66:47 in the second half netted by junior
Amora Valencia assisted by sophomore
Amanda Elton.
The Cobbers scored their lone goal with just over five minutes remaining in the game off a free kick caused by a yellow card from first-year
Mallory Johnson.
"The team played really well today and we are very happy with the result", said head coach
Jesse Campos. "Concordia was defensively gritty and their goalkeeper made several important saves, but
Lauren Witte and
Amora Valencia came up big to seal the win! It was also very nice to see so many players see time and contribute to a strong performance."
Valencia led the way for St. Kate's with three SOG followed by Witte with two SOG each scoring one.
Rookie
Kate Praetz played 80 minutes tallying two saves and sophomore
Molly Rudolph played the final ten minutes of the game with one save and allowing one goal.
St. Kate's returns to play on Sunday, April 18 hosting the University of St. Thomas at 1 pm at St. Kate's field.
