Softball drops a pair at Coe Saturday

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- St. Catherine softball dropped a pair of non-conference games on Saturday against Coe College. St. Kate's is now 3-3 on the season with six more games to play until they open the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) season at home on April 3. 

GAME 1, St. Catherine 3, Coe 4
The junior duo of Angela Huepfel and Alex Ehde got things started for the Wildcats as Ehde hit a triple to get in scoring position early. Hupefel drove Ehde in for the RBI to give St. Kate's the one-run lead. Coe took the momentum shortly after knotting it up 1-1 after one. 

St. Kate's was unable to score again until the bottom of the sixth inning with Mikayla Grant hitting a single to drive in first-year Lynae Doty just before sophomore Alyssa Montero hit a single bringing in junior Lindsay Burr

Annabelle Schutte collected her first loss of the season in the circle playing six inning and throwing six strikeouts. Schutte had three errors in the game facing 31 batters. 

GAME 2, St. Catherine 1, Coe 3
Coe was on the board first in game two taking a two-run lead in the bottom of the second. Ehde was a standout again in the second game getting St. Catherine on the board bringing sophomore Taylor Brunn across the plate in top of the fifth inning. 

First-year Kaitlín Boyles hit her first collegiate double as the leadoff batter in the top of the third inning. Julia Azure also hit her first collegiate triple in the game helping get Brunn into scoring position with Ehde at the plate. 

Senior Kathryn Proper pitched in all six inning in game two tallying three strikeouts facing 27 batters. 

The Wildcats are on the road again Friday, March 26 as they travel to the University of Northwestern-St. Paul for a doubleheader under the lights at 4 and 6 pm.
