Tennis remains undefeated with 8-1 victory over Bennies

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The win streak continues for St. Catherine tennis as the Wildcats claimed the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) victory of the College of Saint Benedict Bennies with a match score of 8-1. With the win, the purple and gold are now on an eleven-match win streak having not lost since April 14, 2019. 

St. Kate's claimed victories in doubles one and two to open the conference match with the Bennies at Baseline Tennis Center. Playing at No. 1 was Kelsey Dorr and Bri Dorr defeating Saint Ben's 8-1 while Ella Graham and Reilee Schepper shut out their opponent 8-0 at No. 2. The Bennies' lone point of the match was in No. 3 doubles with first-years Noelle Slezak and Erica Wing falling 8-4. 

Schepper who is 3-0 against MIAC opponents in both singles and doubles this season said following the match, "This match was a really good test for us. It proved that we are in a really good spot for the rest of the season and I am excited to play again next week!" 

In singles play, K. Dorr continued her win streak at No. 1 with a 6-1, 6-0 victory giving St. Kate's an early 3-1 lead. Sophomore Elsa Joly, playing at No. 5, was the second to finish topping her opponent 6-2, 6-3. Graham and Schepper collected the team's fifth and sixth points securing the conference win for the Wildcats. Graham played No. 3 defeating the Bennies 6-1,6-0 while Schepper battled for the 6-3, 6-4 victory. Slezak earned her third win at No. 6 singles this season with set scores of 7-5,6-1. The match ended with B. Dorr putting up a fight at No. 2 to remain undefeated. After winning her first set 6-4 and falling in set two 6-2, B. Dorr was able to get the point in the tiebreaker 11-9. 


St. Kate's returns to competition Friday, March 26 with a 4:30 pm match vs. the University of St. Thomas.
