ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine soccer team (12-1-3, 9-1-1 MIAC) made history on Saturday afternoon securing the program's first-ever Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) regular-season title with a 3-0 defeat of St. Olaf College at St. Kate's Field. To go along with the win, the Wildcats earned the No. 1 seed in the MIAC Playoffs which includes a first-round bye.
Junior
Amanda Elton scored her 12th goal of the season in the 21st minute assisted by senior
Lauren Witte. With just a minute remaining in the first half, rookie
Sydney Nelson netted the fourth goal of her debut season as Witte collected her second assist of the game.
The final goal was scored in the 54th minute by senior
Rachael Holm off a pass from
Mallory Johnson securing the 3-0 victory.
Sophomore
Kate Praetz played the complete game on Saturday collecting her seventh shutout of the season ranking her first in the conference this season.
The Wildcats win also earned head coach
Jesse Campos a personal milestone as he is now the program's all-time win's leader at 48 passing former head coach Chris Citowicki.
St. Catherine will host the winner of No. 5 Augsburg vs. No. 4 Gustavus at home on Wednesday, Nov 3 at 2 pm.
