WHITEWATER, Wis. -- Four individuals from the St. Catherine University tennis team appeared in the Fall 2021 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Tournament September 24-26th recording a historical performance for the Wildcats program.
Junior
Kelsey Dorr highlighted the weekend entering singles play as the No. 3 seed making it to the quarterfinal round falling to the eventual tournament winner. Dorr earned a first round bye claiming a decisive victory over Bethel's Sydney Rott 6-2, 6-0. Dorr advanced to take on the No. 18 seed from Luther, Shelby Cook, with a 6-3, 6-2 defeat. From there Dorr faced Gustavus' Anna Stutz claiming a 6-1, 6-0 win to make it to the quarterfinal match against Grinnell's Sabrina Tang. Tang went on to defeat Dorr 6-1,6-1.
Dorr also appeared in the doubles tournament playing with fellow junior
Sofia Walker as the No. 6 seed. Dorr and Walker earned a first-round bye before topping UWEC's second team 8-6. In the round of 16, Dorr and Walker claimed a victory over Luther 8-6 followed by a 8-3 win over Gustavus in the quarterfinals. The two fell in the semifinals round to UWEC's first team, 8-5.
In singles play, Walker entered the tournament unseeded falling in the second round to the No. 16 seed. In addition to Dorr and Walker, senior
Reilee Schepper and junior
Elsa Joly appeared at the regional tournament. Schepper who was also unseeded was given a first round bye on the first-day of play, falling 6-0, 6-0 to Grinnell. Joly lost in her first match in three sets (6-7, 6-3, 10-3) to Wartburg.
Schepper and Joly also played in the doubles tournament losing in the ITA main draw to Edgewood in the first round. From there, the two entered the consolation back draw making it to the semifinals round.
