Seniors shine at final home game of the season

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The St. Catherine University basketball team dropped their final regular season game at Butler Center on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats fell to the Carleton College Knights in the finals minutes of the game with a score of 61-67 on a day honoring the three Wildcat seniors. With the loss, St. Kate's earned the No. 6 seed and will travel to  the University of St. Thomas on Tuesday for the first-round of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Playoffs.

Seniors Emma Nelson and Danica Cambrice led the team both adding 12 points to the final score. Nelson continued her hot streak with a career-best 12 points going 2-3 with the three-ball and shooting 5-8 overall. The two-time team captain had two rebounds and three assists against the Knights playing 34 minutes. Cambrice was 50 percent from the field and made 2 of her 5 free-throw attempts in her final game at Butler Center. Cambrice contributed six boards, one assist and one steal. The final senior honored during today's game was the Wildcats other two-time captain, Jackie Radford. Radford scored seven points grabbing four boards with a team best four assists and one steal.

The Wildcats controlled the game through the first three quarters holding the 49-41 lead with just one quarter remaining. The Knights took control of the game rallying back from the eight point deficit taking the lead with just over 3 minutes to play. Radford was able to get the Wildcats within two points after a clutch three-pointer with 21 seconds left in the game. Her efforts weren't enough though as St. Catherine was in foul trouble and gave-up four charity points in the last seconds of the game.

St. Catherine returns to the MIAC Playoffs for the third time in the last four years just missing the cut last season. Playoff competition starts on Tuesday, Feb. 25 with a 7 pm first-round game against the No. 3 seeded Tommies.
