ST. PAUL, Minn. - St. Catherine hockey recorded their first tie of the season with Bethel in a 2-2 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) showdown on an evening honoring seniors Victoria Gruett and
Lexi Muller. The two teams both earn a point in the conference standings with three games remaining in the regular season and the MIAC playoffs on the line.
Bethel scored early in the first period finding the back of the net with just 1:07 into the game. St. Catherine knotted it up at 1-1, seven minutes later from rookie
Lindsey Hays who had help from
Ashlyn Rakos and
Sophia Gorski.
The visiting Royals took the lead again at 8:04 in the second period scoring what would go on to be their last goal of the game.
At 10:36 in the second period, rookie
Laura Denchfield scored her 13th goal of the season with an assist from Muller tying the game at 2-2 with nearly 30 minutes to play in the game. Denchfield's goal on Friday moved her back into the No. 1 spot in the MIAC where she is currently in a four-way tie with 13 goals and leading all first-years.
The Wildcats were unable to find the back of the net again in the game, despite battling the Royals to several opportunities.
Sophomore
Elizabeth Kubicek recorded 33 saves in between the pipes in game one of the conference series. Kubicek and the Wildcats travel to the Schwan Super Rink on Saturday for game two with the Royals with a 3 pm start time.
