Wildcats drop heartbreaker to Gustavus

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The St. Catherine University basketball team dropped a heartbreaker at home against the visiting Gustavus Adolphus College Golden Gusties with a final score of 67-65. The Gusties snapped the Wildcats' three-game win streak with four games remaining on the regular season and sitting in sixth place in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC). 

The Gusties were out to a quick lead at Butler Center finding themselves with a 13-point lead at the half. The Wildcats changed the momentum in coming out of the half outscoring the Gusties in the final two-quarters of the game.

In the final ten minutes, St. Catherine rallied back from another 13-point deficit to tie the game at 61-61 with 3:29 left to play. Gustavus scored went onto score six more points in the final minutes to the Wildcats' three after Jackie Radford hit the three-ball with under a minute to play. Radford's last effort would go onto be the final points scored in the contest with St. Catherine falling by just two. 

Danica Cambrice added 23 points against the Gusties shooting 50 percent from the field and hitting 7 of her 8 free-throw attempts, plus recorded two steals and one block.  Behind Cambrice was Radford with 13 points in the game with six rebounds, five assists, one steal, and one block. For the second straight game, Brooke Torvik added ten points off the bench with a near-perfect stat line. Torvik was 100 percent from the three-point line against the Gusties and from the free-throw line. She also contributed three rebounds, one assist, and one steal. 

St. Catherine travels to Moorhead to play Concordia College on Saturday for their final road trip of the regular season. St. Catherine defeated Concordia earlier this season 84-68. The Wildcats return to Butler Center on Wednesday, February 19 hosting the College of Saint Benedict at 7 pm.
