ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Wildcat hockey team suffered a tough loss to the University of St. Thomas Tommies on Saturday afternoon at Drake Arena. The 7-1 loss comes on the heels of the 3-0 loss to the Tommies on Friday night on the road. St. Catherine is 8-10 overall after this weekend and 5-7 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC).
There were five goals scored in the opening period between both teams, with St. Thomas taking a 4-1 lead after 20 minutes. Rookie
Lindsey Hays scored her first collegiate goal cutting the Tommies 2-0 lead in half at 13:19 into the game. Hays had help from junior
Ashlyn Rakos and first-year
Kaitlyn Blair just 18 seconds into the powerplay. St. Thomas went onto net two additional goals in the final three minutes of the period, one of which while on a powerplay.
St. Thomas added two more goals in the second period and one final goal in the third for the final score of 7-1. Despite the lopsided final result, St. Catherine was still able to get 18 shots off in the game to the Tommies 25.
St. Catherine is in Minneapolis next Friday facing off with Augsburg University at 7 pm. The Wildcats will host the Auggies Saturday at 2 pm inside of Drake Arena.
