ST. PAUL, Minn. - St. Catherine had a day with a 71-48 defeat of the St. Olaf Oles on Saturday afternoon. The 23-point victory broke the three-way tie at seventh between the College of Saint Benedict and the Oles who were each at 5-8 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC). Both the Bennies and the Oles suffered losses today moving St. Catherine into sixth place with a 9-10 overall record and 6-8 conference record.
Eleven Wildcats scored in the conference game led by senior
Danica Cambrice. Cambrice had an impressive stat line against the Oles adding 16 points going 6 for 8 from the field. Cambrice was clutch from the line as well making 4 of her 5 free-throw attempts. The Wildcats leading scorer had a team-high seven rebounds, three assists, three steals and one block. Fellow senior
Jackie Radford was behind Cambrice in scoring with 11 points in the win with two assists and one rebound. The balance of the starting five combined for 22 points with rookies
Bree Glynn and
Cierra Ahlf scoring eight each and sophomore
Katie Benjamin with six.
St. Catherine led St. Olaf throughout the game, taking an early 22-15 lead after the first ten minutes. The Oles were able to slow down the Wildcats in the second quarter as both teams added 12 points to the scoreboard.
Coming out of the break carrying a 34-27 advantage over the Oles, St. Catherine increased their lead scoring 21 points as the Oles tallied 11. The Wildcats shot 61.5% in the quarter going 5 for 7 from the charity line. In the final ten minutes, St. Catherine added 16 points while holding the Oles to just ten.
The Wildcats scored 22 points off the bench in the victory led by junior
Kassidy Jenkins with six and senior
Emma Nelson with five.
St. Catherine is at Macalester on Wednesday, February 5 at 7 pm. The Wildcats return home Wednesday, February 12 hosting Gustavus at 7 pm.
