Witte, Campbell lead Wildcats to 3-1 victory over Coe

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Sophomores Sofia Campbell and Lauren Witte led the Wildcats to a 3-1 victory of the visiting Coe College Kohawks (3-1) from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. St. Catherine is now 2-1 on the season before their taking the road for the first time this season next Wednesday against nationally ranked University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. 

Witte scored her third goal of the season just 1:54 into the first half unassisted as Campbell scored her first of the season, also unassisted 10 minutes later for the two-goal lead. In addition to having the lead throughout the first 45 minutes, the Wildcats outshot the Kohawks 18 to 2. 

At the 55 minute mark, Coe scored what would be their only goal of the game. Witte scored her fourth goal of the season moments later. In the last half of the non-conference pairing, St. Kate's tallied 13 more shots for a game total of 31, 15 of which were on goal. Coe added 4 shots in the second half for a game total of 6, 5 on goal. Both Campbell and Witte had 7 shots in the game with 5 and 4 SOG, respectively. Rookie Amanda Elton had 5 shots and 1 SOG while senior Madelyn Conners tallied 4 shots and 3 SOG. 

Head soccer coach, Jesse Campos said following the game, "I am extremely proud of the team's performance today. They moved the ball well and finished the opportunities they were creating. I am excited for our first road game of the season and to see what we can do against a very talented UW-LaCrosse on Wednesday". 

 The Wildcats face No. 17 UW-LaCrosse on Wednesday, September 11 at 7 p.m. St. Catherine will play at the University of Northwestern-St. Paul on Saturday, September 14, also at 7 p.m. 

The team is set to open the conference season on Tuesday, September 17 as they travel to Winona to face Saint Mary's in the Pediatric Cancer Awareness game at 7 p.m.

Following the three road games, St. Kate's returns home to host Carleton College on Saturday, September 21 at 1 p.m.
