ST. PAUL, Minn. - After a tough loss to Carleton on Saturday, St. Catherine looked like an entirely new team on Sunday against Luther College at home. The Wildcats defeated the Norse 5-2 scoring 4 goals in the first 45 minutes of play.
Senior
Maddie Conners scored the first goal for St. Kate's in the 11th minute assisted by
Lauren Witte. Less than a minute later the Norse scored off a penalty kick tying the score at 1-1.
Sophomore
Sofia Campbell scored her third goal of the season assisted by first-year
Nora McLoone at 28:36 on the clock taking the one-goal lead.
Witte scored her first goal of the game and the Wildcats third of the game assisted by rookie Mandy Elton, her fourth of the season.
St. Kate's fourth goal was scored by Amora Valenica in the 40th minute with an assist from her sophomore classmate
Emma Watt to end the half 4-1.
Ten minutes into the second half, Luther scored the second and final goal of the game with an unassisted goal to get within two goals of St. Kate's.
The final goal of the game was scored by Witte, her seventh of the season ranking her No. 5 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC). Witte's goal was a result of a penalty kick from a foul on Elton.
Witte tallied a team best six shots on goal in the non-conference game followed by Conners with four.
The now 5-3 Wildcats return to MIAC action next Saturday with a home game against Gustavus Adolphus at 1 p.m.
