BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - After splitting matches on the first day of the McAttack Bash hosted by Birmingham Southern College, the St. Catherine University volleyball team (3-1, 0-0 MIAC) went 2-0 on the final day topping Brevard College and Covenant College both in three straight sets.

Junior middle
Erin Cutts led the way for St. Kate's again on the second day of matches tallying 13 kills and 2 service aces in the victory. The Wildcats went on an 8 point run to open the first set before the Tornados cut the scoring streak. In the first set, the Wildcats hit .406 with 16 kills, and just 3 errors.
Brevard opened set two leading St. Kate's due to errors for much of set until St. Kate's was able to tie the score at 18-18. The Tornados and Wildcats traded the lead before St. Kate's finished it winning 27-25. The team carried that momentum into the third and final set of the match topping the Tornados 25-13.
Sophomore pin hitter
Bryana Leverentz had 8 kills in the first match, plus 1 block assist. Senior
Emma Nelson added 6 kills to her season total plus another 13 digs just two shy of sophomore defensive specialist
Grace Amacher who had 15 digs while defending the back row Saturday morning. St. Kate's had a total of 41 kills and just 17 errors hitting .220 to the Tornados .009 hitting percentage.
MATCH 2 | St. Catherine 3, Covenant 0 (25-8, 25-12, 25-11)
In the final match of the McAttack Bash, the Wildcats swept Covenant College in three quick sets outscoring the Scots 75-31.
St. Kate's opened the match with a 7-0 run followed by two 6-0 runs in the first set. Things were nearly the same in the second set as St. Kate's allowed just one-point before going on taking a 9-1 lead. The team went on another 6 point run taking a 15-2 lead and taking the set at 25-12.
The team took an early 13-3 lead over the Scots in the final set with Cutts at the service line for 10 straight points and finishing the set 25-11.
The Wildcats were successful from the service line as rookie
Abbi Harker tallied 4, Cutts earned 4 and first-year
Marissa Gilbertson posted 2.
Nelson had an impressive three sets with 18 digs and 6 kills in the match. Sophomore
Lauren Isaacson led the Wildcats in the second match tallying 8 kills hitting .421 and zero errors.
St. Catherine opens the 2019 home season on Wednesday, September 4 as they host Martin Luther College at 7:00 pm.
