MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - St. Catherine tennis faced the No. 38 team in the nation, Bethel University on Friday at Baseline Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota. The conference rival topped St. Kate's 7-2 with the Wildcats picking up wins in the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles matches.Â
Juniors
Bri Dorr and
Aubrey Eckstrom faced the Royals No. 1 doubles pairing of Grace and Maggie Reirmann. The sisters are ranked No. 3 regionally defeating Dorr and Eckstrom 2-8.Â
St. Kate's fell in the No. 2 match 2-8 featuring juniors
Alisha Wiedmeier and
Maddy Knoll but picked up a point in the No. 3 doubles match.Â
Sophomore
Ella Graham and first-year Reiliee Schepper defeated the Royals 8-7 to remain undefeated this season at 3-0 as a No. 3 doubles team.Â
In singles competition, St. Catherine picked up a point with senior
Ruth Rike defeating her opponent 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 6 position.Â
Dorr played in the No. 1 spot falling 1-6, 0-6, while her doubles partner Eckstrom had identical set scores dropping her match in the No. 3 spot.Â
Wiedmeier was defeated in the No. 2 singles match by the No. 18 ranked player in the region with set scores of 2-6, 3-6.Â
Knoll played a close match falling to the Royals in the No. 4 singles match 3-6,3-6 as senior
Leah Obert played a three-set match falling in the third tiebreaker set 6-1, 0-6, 4-10.Â
The Wildcats will travel to St. Peter on Sunday, April 14 for a conference match against No. 31 Gustavus Adolphus College. The match is set to begin at 10 AM.Â
