Wildcats win first match in Florida as Obert remains undefeated

BABSON PARK, Fla. - Senior Leah Obert continued her 7-0 undefeated spring season Tuesday as the St. Catherine University tennis team faced NAIA opponent Webber International University in Babson Park, Florida. The Wildcats captured the 6-3 match victory over the Warriors going 5-1 in singles play while dropping two of the three doubles matches advancing their overall record to 6-3 this season. 

Juniors Bri Dorr and Alisha Wiedmeier accounted for the Wildcats' lone doubles point in the No. 1 match with a score of 8-5. St. Kate's No. 2 doubles team of juniors Aubrey Eckstrom and Maddy Knoll played a close match falling to the Warriors 6-8. Sophomore Ella Graham played in the No. 3 doubles match paired with senior Ruth Rike, also dropping their match with a score of 6-8. 

Extending her No. 1 singles record to 5-4, Dorr collected the win in the three-set match with scores of 6-3, 2-6, 10-7. Wiedmeier also played a three-set match in the No. 2 singles spot coming out the victor with set scores of 6-1, 4-6, 10-2. 

Eckstrom dropped her second match to the Warriors in the No. 3 singles position going 1-6 and 2-6. Eckstrom's doubles partner and fellow junior, Knoll, played the No. 4 singles match winning with scores of  7-6,6-2. 

At No. 5 singles, Obert played a three-set match falling in the first set 1-6 and coming back in the last two with scores of 6-1 and 10-8. The final singles match against the 8-6 Warriors was played by first-year Reilee Schepper. In her first singles match of the season at the No. 6 spot, Schepper played a near perfect match going 6-1, 6-1. 

St. Catherine will face State college of Florida on Wednesday in Bradenton, Florida at 4 p.m.
