Wildcat tennis tops College of Saint Benedict 8-1

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The St. Catherine University Wildcat tennis team topped the College of Saint Benedict 8-1 on Saturday morning in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) dual at Baseline Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota.

The Wildcats swept the undefeated Bennies in doubles competition dropping one match in the No. 3 singles spot to the conference foe. 

In the No. 1 doubles match, juniors Bri Dorr and Alisha Wiedmeier won 8-5 over the Bennies. Fellow juniors Aubrey Eckstrom and Maddy Knoll won the No. 2 doubles match 8-7 with a tiebreaker set score of 8-6. In the final doubles match of the day, sophomore Ella Graham and first-year Reilee Schepper won the No. 3 doubles match 8-3. 

In the No. 1 singles spot, Dorr played a three-set match going 6-3, 0-6, 10-3. Dorr is 4-4 overall this season in the No. 1 singles spot and 2-3 against MIAC opponents. Dorr's doubles partner, Wiedmeier also played a three-set match dropping the first set 3-6 and taking the second two 6-2, 10-5. Wiedmeier is 6-2 this season in the No. 2 singles position and 3-2 against MIAC foes. 

The No. 3 singles match was played by Eckstrom falling to the Bennies 4-6, 3-6. Eckstrom's doubles partner, Knoll played in the No. 4 singles position her match playing a near perfect match going 6-0, 6-1. 

Senior Leah Obert extended her win streak to 7 with a 6-2, 6-1 win in the No. 5 singles spot while sophomore Ella Graham topped her pairing in the No. 6 singles match 6-3, 6-2. 

The Wildcats' travel to Florida for two matches facing Webber International on Tuesday, March 25 and State College of Florida on Wednesday, March 26 during their annual spring break trip. St. Catherine returns to conference play on April 5 traveling to St. Olaf College for a 4 p.m. match.
