Box Score MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Wildcat tennis team is off to a great start this season extending their record to 2-0 with their 8-1 win over University of Northwestern-St. Paul at Baseline Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota on Friday evening.
St. Catherine swept doubles competition with juniors
Aubrey Eckstrom and
Bri Dorr playing in the No. 1 spot and winning 8-6. In the No. 2 doubles spot juniors
Alisha Wiedmeier and
Maddy Knoll also defeated their opponents 8-6. Sophomore
Ella Graham and senior
Leah Obert were the No. 3 doubles pairing topping the Eagles No. 3 team 8-2.
The Wildcats won 5 out of the 6 singles matches with the Eagles taking the No. 1 singles match over Dorr (1-6, 6-4, 4-10). Weidmeier also went to three sets in the No. 2 singles spot coming out the victor going 6-2, 0-6, 10-4.
Eckstrom swept the Eagles No. 3 singles player winning both sets 6-0 while Knoll played an 8 game pro set at No. 4 winning 8-5.
Obert and Graham played in the No. 5 & 6 spots, respecivley. Obert defeated her pairing 6-2, 6-1 while Graham went to three sets winning 6-0, 3-6, 10-1.
" Tonight was a good test for our team", said assistant coach Mickinzee Salo. "Northwestern is a very competitive team and we needed to comet out ready to play right from the start. The women did a great job competing and controlling what they could. Overall we are really pleased with how we played tongitha and are looking forward to tomorrow."
St. Catherine opens the conference season Saturday against University of St. Thomas at 9:30 a.m. back at Baseline Tennis Center.
