WINONA, Minn. - The St. Catherine University basketball team fell to Saint Mary's University 71-56 on Wednesday evening in Winona. The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) game was a playoff determiner for both squads with the Wildcats road to the post-season comes to an end. St. Kate's is now 10-14 overall and 7-10 against conference teams with one game remaining on the season.
Saint Mary's held a 9 point lead over the Wildcats after the first 10 minutes of the game. With under two minutes to play in the second quarter, first-year
Grace Amacher made two good free throws for the Wildcats to start their run and get within one point at the half with a score of 25-24 Cardinals.
Senior
Audra Clark led the team after the first 20 minutes with 9 points ahead of junior
Danica Cambrice with 6 points and first-year
Taylor Johnson with 3 points.
Coming out of the half, St. Catherine gained a 5 point lead at 7:42 with a good three-pointer from Johnson assisted by Clark. Both teams traded the lead with under 3 minutes to play in the third quarter. The Cardinals ran away with the lead with 1 minute to play getting a 6 point advantage headed into the final quarter.
Saint Mary's carried the momentum into the fourth quarter but the Wildcats battled on posting 16 points on the Cardinals defense. St. Catherine was unable to cut the advantage built in the first third quarters falling to the Cardinals 71-56.
Clark tallied 20 points total against the Cardinals on Wednesday plus added 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Clark is now just 8 points away from matching the all-time points record currently held by LaShay Holt (2013-2017) at 1,476.
Junior
Jackie Radford led the team with 8 rebounds on the night, 6 of which were defensive. Radford also had 8 points and 2 assists against the Cardinals.
Clark will have one more game on her career as the Wildcats play their final game of the season hosting conference foe Macalester College on Saturday for Senior Day at 1 p.m.
