ST. PAUL, Minn. - St. Catherine suffered a heartbreaking 5-4 loss to the University of Wisconsin-Superior on Saturday afternoon at Drake Arena.
Laura Denchfield netted her seventh career goal to open the scoring for the Wildcats as they trailed 2-0 after the first period. Scoring at 7:24 in the second period, Denchfield had help from
Emilee Anderson and
Lexi Muller again.
In total eight Wildcats had points in the one-goal game led by Muller with three. The senior captain scored the Wildcats' second goal of the game at 2:53 in the third period assisted by
Veronica Gruett and
Sophia Gorski. Muller also had the assist on Gorski's goal that closed out scoring in the game at 13:08 in the third period and St. Catherine's fourth overall goal. The sophomore has scored against the Yellowjackets on Friday evening while tallying her fifth this season today.
Rookie
Marie Reimer scored her third of the season and the Wildcats third of the game at 5:26 in the third period tying the game at 3-3. Reimer's goal was assisted by first-years
Brittany Weber and
Emma Moore.
St. Catherine won the shot count 35-32 over Superior going 1-6 on power play opportunities. The Wildcats penalty kill was 3-0 over the Yellowjackets.
Today's game concluded the Wildcats 2019 schedule with action returning on January 10, 2020. St. Catherine hosts Concordia University-Wisconsin on Friday at 7:30 pm and Saturday at 4 pm.
