ST. PAUL, Minn. - For the fifth consecutive season, the St. Catherine University Wildcat soccer team has earned a spot in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) earning the No. 3 seed after today's 2-1 victory over Bethel University on senior day. This is the best overall seed and conference finish for St. Catherine has earned in program history at 8-3 securing a first-round home game on Tuesday, November 5 at 2 pm.
The Wildcats honored the nine seniors on the roster this season prior to the start of this afternoon's contest who have been to the MIAC Playoffs each season in purple and gold. All nine seniors started the game together one last time playing their second to last game at St. Kate's Field.
St. Catherine's first goal was scored in the 18th minute by rookie
Amanda Elton assisted by sophomore
Amora Valencia. Today's goal was Elton's eighth this season and Valencia's assist is her first of the season.
Bethel's lone goal of the game was the result of a penalty kick to tie the game 1-1 at 32:41 in the first half.
The Wildcats' game-winning goal was also the result of a penalty kick scored by sophomore
Taylor Johnson in the 59th minute of the second half. Johnson has six goals this season, four of which have been game-winners going 2-2 in PK's.
Senior
Tayler Koop earned her 30th career win and 11th this season allowing just one penalty kick goal and making four saves.
The first round of the playoffs begins on Tuesday, November 5 with the Wildcats hosting the Royals again at 2 p.m.
