ST. PAUL, Minn. - Sophomore
Sofia Campbell scored the St. Catherine University Wildcats lone goal on Monday against the visiting Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) foes Augsburg University. The Wildcats' dropped the conference game to the Auggies 2-1. St. Catherine is now 7-4 overall and 3-2 in the MIAC.
Both teams were scoreless after the uneventful first half with the Wildcats tallied five shots and three on goal. The Auggies fell flat in the first 45 with only one shot on goal of their three total.
The second half started out in the same fashion with St. Kate's coming out strong until the 75th minute when Augsburg scored off of a free kick in the box. St. Catherine had the same chance as a result of an Augsburg foul on Mandy Elton in the 51st minute but was unable to capitalize.
The second goal of the game for Augsburg was in the 83rd minute to take the 2-0 lead. Campbell's goal was also from a free kick that was the result of an Augsburg foul on
Maddie Conners an in the final second of the game and her fourth goal of the season.
St. Catherine faces Hamline on Saturday, October 12 at Paterson Field on Hamline's campus at 1 p.m. The Wildcats return to St. Kate's Field on Tuesday, October 15 hosting St. Olaf College at 3:30 pm.
