ST. PAUL, Minn. - The St. Catherine University Wildcat volleyball team (13-9, 3-5 MIAC) started the weekend off with a 3-2 defeat of the Hamline Pipers (12-12, 2-6 MIAC) on Friday evening at
Butler Center.
After the match, head coach
Todd Nelson said, "This was a great win over a tough opponent and it was great to get a five-set victory at home. I am proud of the team for how well they hung together. I really thought they played for one another throughout the match."
St. Catherine picked up their second Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) win in a row on Parents Night. Senior outside hitter
Emma Nelson had 13 kills and 22 digs in the five-set match. Nelson was just ahead of junior
Erin Cutts who recorded her tenth double-figure kills match with eleven against the Pipers, plus a team-best five blocks. Cutts has remained in the top-five in the conference all season for hitting percentage, while currently averaging .313 in the No. 5 spot.
Sophomore defensive specialist
Grace Amacher had a season-best 35 digs in the victory. Amacher is currently ranked No. 8 in the MIAC for digs this season with 365 and averages 4.40 digs per set for which she ranks No. 7.
Amacher's sophomore classmates,
Lauren Isaacson and
Bryana Leverentz also added double-digit kills with Isaacson recording eleven and Leverentz with ten posting a team-best hitting percentage of .350.
The Wildcats will play their final regular-season home match on Saturday, October 26 against the Saint Mary's University Cardinals on Senior Day at 3 pm.
