Wildcats pick-up MIAC win in straight sets over Scots

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The St. Catherine University volleyball team improved to 12-9 on the season with a 3-0 victory over the Macalester College Scots. This win over the Scots is St. Kate's sixth-consecutive victory with the Wildcats coming out ahead in each match between the two conference foes since 2013. The Wildcats are now 2-5 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) with four conference matches remaining in the regular season. 

Junior middle hitter Erin Cutts recorded ten kills while hitting .750 against the Scots plus one block. After tonight's match, Cutts moved into the No. 4 spot in the MIAC in hitting percentage averaging .325 in her second year at St. Catherine. 

Sophomore Lauren Isaacson also added 10 kills in the three-set match to go along with eight digs. Isaacson ranks third on the team this season in total kills and digs with 167 and 149, respectively. 

Rookie Abbi Harker had a match-best 22 assists in the win adding to her season total of 356 averaging 4.56 per set.  Harker was key from the service line two three service aces going on a seven-point run in the first set as the Wildcats found themselves down. 

Senior Emma Nelson also registered a match-best in both aces and digs. Nelson had four service aces against the Scots and tallied 17 digs. This season, Nelson has contributed double-digs in digs in 17 of the 21 matches.  

"I'm really happy for the team to pick up this win," said head coach, Todd Nelson. "We served well and the team did a great job of making improvements through the match. "

The Wildcats return to Butler Center on Friday, October 25 hosting Hamline University at 7 pm on Parent's Night. St. Catherine will play the final regular-season match against Saint Mary's University on Saturday, October 26 at 3 pm for Senior Day.
