A battle of goaltending highlights Wildcats loss to UW-Stevens Point

St. Catherine had forty-six shots in the non-conference match-up

ST. PAUL, Minn. ­– The Wildcat hockey team opened the New Year with a tough loss to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Pointers on Tuesday evening at Drake Arena. St. Catherine fell 1-0 to the visiting Pointers in the non-conference match-up before they start their long Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) stretch to close out the season.

Making her season debut after overcoming an injury from last season was sophomore goalie Bryce Boreen, who was named to the MIAC All-Rookie Team last season. Boreen faced 42 shots in her debut allowing just one goal for the Pointers while they were on their power play at 11:41 in the first period.

St. Kate's outshot UW-Stevens Point with 46 shots led by senior defenseman MacKenzie Ess adding 8. Sophomore forward Emilee Anderson had several great opportunities against the Pointers goalie adding 7 shots on the night and senior defenseman Tori Thompson also had 6.  In total, six different skaters on St. Kate's team posted 5 or more shots on net.

St. Catherine will travel to Northfield on Friday, January 11 for a 7 PM game vs. St. Olaf College Oles at the new St. Olaf Ice Arena before returning home on Saturday, January 12 for a 1 PM game at Drake Arena vs. the Oles.
