ST. PAUL, Minn. - The St. Catherine University Wildcats hockey team put forth a tough battle against the visiting conference foe, Saint Mary's University Cardinals Friday evening at Drake Arena, but ultimately resulted in a 2-2 tie after 1 OT. After game one in the two-game series, the Wildcats are now 4-10-2 overall and 1-6-2 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC).
Tallying her seventh goal of the season at 12:37 in the 1st period was sophomore forward
Emilee Anderson assisted by senior defender
Tori Thompson and
Lexi Muller. Anderson is now tied with senior
Brede Postier for goals this season as
Lexi Muller leads the team with assists this season adding 9.
Thompson gave the Wildcats a two-goal lead at 11:51 in the 2nd period while on a power play assisted by Postier her seventh assist this season.
After holding the 2-0 lead for over six minutes, Saint Mary's found the back of the net on a delayed penalty with just 2:04 left in the period. The Cardinals struck again just under 2 minutes into the 3rd period to tie the game at 2-2. The Wildcats pressured Saint Mary's outshooting them 8-3 in the 3rd period, but unable to get past the Cardinals goalie to force a scoreless OT.
Head coach
Brad Marshall said following the game, "I thought it was a good college hockey game, but I also think our execution and completing chances was off. We need to be better on our odd-man rushes."
St. Kate's travels to Winona, Minn. for game two of the series with the Cardinals. Puck drop is set for 4 p.m.
