ST. PAUL, Minn.- For the first time since January 5, 2008, the St. Catherine University basketball team came out the victors against the Gustavus Adolphus College Golden Gusties. In that game, also played at
Butler Center, the Wildcats topped the Gusties 63-59. Today, the Wildcats topped the Gusties, 64-58. This win advances the Wildcats overall record to 7-8 and 4-4 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC).
St. Catherine trailed in the first quarter to the Gusties 13-10 but were able to find some momentum in the second quarter outscoring Gustavus with 19 points. Senior guard
Audra Clark, led the Wildcats in the first half with 10 points, 3 assists and 3 boards.
Coming out the half, St. Catherine remained behind by two at 31-29 before the Gusties went on a hot streak outscoring St. Kate's 18-10 in the third quarter. Starting out the final quarter of the game, St. Kate's trailed by 10 at 49-39.
The Widlcats owned the fourth quarter putting up 25 points to the Gusties just 9, led by junior
Danica Cambrice. At the half, Cambrice had only six points in the box score and finished the game overall with 24 total. Cambrice also added 4 rebounds and 1 steal in the game.
Clark finished the game with 12 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Following the win, Clark said, "We have had so many close games this season where we've come out on the wrong side. It felt really good to come out on the other side, especially against a very competitive team like Gustavus. This win gives us the confidence we need for the second half of the season."
St. Catherine will travel to the College of Saint Benedict on Wednesday, January 16 for a MIAC game at 7pm. St. Catherine is home again on Wednesday, January 23 at 7pm taking on Augsburg.
