Game Recap: Soccer |

Goal from Witte late in the second half not enough for the Wildcats

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - In a midweek non-conference match-up, the Wildcats fell to the Coe College Kohawks 2-1 resulting in their first loss of the season. The St. Catherine University soccer team is now 3-1-1 and 1-0-1 in conference play after today's evening game in Cedar Rapids.

St. Kate's controlled the play much of the game but were unable to find the back of the net. The Wildcats out-shot the Kohawks 9 to 7 and 7 to 4 shots on goal in the game. Within the first 15 minutes of the game, the Wildcat's senior midfielder, Iryna Talkachova (Minsk, Belarus / Shattuck St. Mary's) had three separate corner kick attempts. This was just the beginning of St. Kate's pressure on Coe throughout the first half recording 7 of their 9 shots in the game.

St. Kate's junior keeper Tayler Koop (Blaine, Minn.) allowed the first goal of the game when Coe's Sydney Schroder tabbed her first of two at the 68th minute. Sophomore Lauren Witte collected her 5th goal of the season when she tied the game 1-1 near the 80th minute from junior forward Allie Bird (Maple Grove, Minn.). Senior midfielder, Brittany Kollman (Fergus Falls, Minn. / Kennedy Secondary) gave it one more attempt to take the lead with a shot at the 83rd minute but ended up unsuccessful as Coe's keeper Kacey Baker nabbed the save. With just six minute remaining, Schroder was able to get past Koop to take the lead and the Wildcats unable to overcome it.

The Wildcats are back in action Saturday, September 22 as they travel to conference opponent Bethel University for a 1 p.m. game. The Wildcats are home again Wednesday, September 26 as they take on Carleton College.
