ST. PAUL, Minn. - After a long stretch of matches on the road, the St. Catherine University Wildcat volleyball (6-3, 0-1 MIAC) team is on campus again Wednesday for a evening match against Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) opponent the Bethel University Royals (11-2, 1-0 MIAC). The match is set for a 7 P.M. start in Wildcat Gymnasium inside
Butler Center and has been designated by head coach
Todd Nelson as the
Camper Reunion Match.
This past weekend, the Wildcats were in River Falls, Wis. for a a two-day three match tournament, where they finished 2-1. The Wildcats took down tournament host University of Wisconsin-River Falls 3-1 and Simpson College 3-1 before falling to University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point 0-3. Prior to the matches across the state lines, the Wildcats were in St. Joseph, Minnesota as they opened the conference season against College of Saint Benedict. The match against Saint Ben's, was the start of career matches for the Wildcats falling in a thrilling four set match 3-1. In that match junior outside hitter
Emma Nelson (Byron, Minn.) had career bests in both kills and digs with 16 and 23, respectively. Nelson will look to repeat her record performance as she enters conference play again tomorrow.
Coming off a week of worthy enough to earn MIAC Libero Athlete of the Week honors, first-year libero
Grace Amacher (Faribault, Minn.) looks to take on the Royals for the first time in her collegiate career. Last year, St. Kate's played at Bethel and dropped the match to the Royals 3-1. In that match, senior right side hitter
Mackenzie Peper (Osceola, Wis.) was the game leader with 9 kills and 3 blocks. Peper's all-time record against the Royals is 0-3 as she looks to come out of her last regular season match against them as the victor.
This being the Wildcats second conference match of the season, neither team has faced a common conference opponent. However, both teams had UW-Stevens Point on their schedule this year so far with the Royals also falling to the Pointers on September 8 1-3. The Royals opened their conference season with a 3-0 win against Saint Mary's University-Minnesota last Wednesday.
