Volleyball crosses the border for a weekend tournament in River Falls

ST. PAUL, Minn. - On the road again this weekend is the St. Catherine University Wildcat volleyball team headed to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls for three matches Friday and Saturday.

The Wildcats open the weekend Friday against tournament host, UW-River Falls and two matches Saturday against Simpson College and UW-Stevens Point. While they will not match up over the weekend, other Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponents; Hamline University, College of Saint Benedict, and University of St. Thomas will also appear at this weekend's tournament.

Coming off of a great match on Wednesday evening in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) season opener where they lost a thrilling four set match to College of Saint Benedict. Head coach Todd Nelson noted his team is excited to play some great competition this weekend. At this point in the season, they are confident in their positions and each player knows where they need to contribute.

Junior outside hitter, Emma Nelson (Byron, Minn.) will look to repeat her Wednesday record performance as the Wildcats take on the Falcons from UW-River Falls this evening at 7 p.m. The last time these two teams met, the Falcons were the victors in the four set match. The Wildcats are a different team this season with even this year's returners adding different things and are ready for the challenge River Falls is known to bring.

On day two in River Falls, the Wildcats will face competition they have not seen before in Simpson College. Simpson is a member of the newly renamed Division III American Rivers Conference formerly known as the Iowa Conference. Entering the weekend Simpson is 4-6 and will competed against all four of the MIAC teams over the course of two days. That match is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning. The Wildcats will get a short break before they take on University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point at 2:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon. The Pointers are currently 6-5 and also are set to competed against all four MIAC teams this weekend.

Tonight's match against UW-River Falls will be streamed live on the Falcons Athletic Page with match time set for 7:30 p.m.
