Softball continues "home" dome play

ST. PAUL, MINN. - The saying goes "no winter lasts forever," but winter seems to be sticking around Minnesota for at least another weekend. After finally playing outside in Minnesota on Thursday afternoon, the St. Catherine University softball team will head back to the Augsburg Dome for two Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) doubleheaders this weekend. The Wildcats are set to "host" Macalester College at 6:30 p.m. Saturday and Augsburg University at 12:00 p.m. Sunday at the Auggie Dome in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

On Thursday afternoon, St. Kate's prevailed for yet another split in MIAC play against Bethel University, winning the opener 4-2 in 11 innings before dropping the second by a final score of 4-3.

Live stats will be available for both doubleheaders and score updates will be available on St. Kate's official Twitter page (@stkateswildcats). Fans are encouraged to check the twitter feed, as scores will be posted online in the event technical issues arise.

Here are the five things to know before this weekend's games:

.459 – Senior shortstop Kylie Macziewski (Bloomington, Minn. / Jefferson) ranks second in the MIAC and first on the Wildcats with a batting average of .459. Macziewski also ranks first on the team in slugging percentage (.705), on base percentage (.535), hits (28), doubles (6) and home runs (3).

2 – Senior pitcher Krista Flugstad (Bloomington, Minn. / Jefferson) is 2-0 on the season against MIAC opponents. Flugstad has only allowed 2 earned runs on 14 hits over 17.1 innings in wins over Carleton College and Bethel University. On Thursday, she had an impressive performance against the Royals as she pitched all 11 innings in the Wildcats 4-2 win.

3 – Last year, St. Kate's gave up only three total runs in its three wins over Macalester and Augsburg. The Wildcats swept the Scots 10-1 and 5-1 as well as beating the Auggies 3-1 before falling in game two 4-3.

8 – Augsburg pitcher Samantha Anderson and Macalester pitcher Sophie Migacz are tied for second in the MIAC for wins with eight. The two pitchers are also near the top of the MIAC leaderboard in strikeouts as they sit second (84) and third (62) respectively.

146 – Sunday afternoon's doubleheader will feature two of the most patient teams in the MIAC. Augsburg leads the conference in walks with 85 while St. Kate's is third with 61.
