Wildcats drop conference season opener to Concordia Friday night

PAUL, Minn. - In the first Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) matchup of the season, the St. Catherine University Wildcats hockey team, fell to the visiting conference foes, the Cobbers of Concordia College Moorhead. The Cobbers topped St. Kate's in overtime 3-2 in game one of the two-game series.

After a scoreless first period, the Cobbers were the first to strike picking up a power-play goal at 4:04 in the second. A minute and twenty-eight seconds into the third period, junior center, Laken Muller (Inver Grove Heights, Minn. / Simley) tied the game at 1-1 from senior forward Lexi Muller (Inver Grove Heights, Minn. / Simley) and senior defenseman Tori Thompson (Rochester, Minn. / John Marshall).

St. Kate's grabbed the lead six seconds later when sophomore forward, Emilee Anderson (Chanhassen, Minn.) scored in her third consecutive game, from La. Muller, her fifth assist of the season.

With just a little over three minutes remaining in regulation, the Cobbers tied the game 2-2 to force overtime. The Cobbers struck again at 2:56 in OT for their first conference win of the 2018-19 season, handing the Wildcats their first conference loss.

The two teams will finish the two-game series tomorrow, Saturday, November 10 at 2 p.m. in St. Paul at Drake Arena.
