Superior, Wis. - In game two of series with non-conference foe the University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets on Saturday afternoon 4-1 at Wessman Arena. St. Kate's record falls to 2-1-0, 0-0-0 (MIAC).
The 'Jackets were on the board first scoring a power-play goal with 16:16 on the clock in the 1st period. The next 14 minutes were uneventful when Superior picked up their second of the period with an even strength goal to end the period 2-0 over the Wildcats.
Head coach
Brad Marshall said following the team's first loss on the season, "I don't think we played bad, I think we just got outplayed. Our puck procession urgency wasn't there today".
The urgency picked up a little more in the 2nd with a late period goal from sophomore forward
Emilee Anderson (Chanhassen, Minn.) from Roni Gruett (Woodbury, Minn./ B.E. Academy) and
Lexi Muller (Inver Grove Heights, Minn. / Simley). The combination of Anderson and Muller also picked up a goal in yesterday's victory over the Yellowjackets ln the second period.
The third period opened with a goal for the two goal advantage over the Wildcats and scored again with just 3:01 remaining in the game with an unassisted goal.
St. Kate's first-year goalie
Karly Schmidt (Delano, Minn.) had the loss on the road in her first collegiate start.
The Wildcats are home again Friday and Saturday of this week as they open conference play with Concordia College at Drake Arena. The game is set for 7:30 pm Friday and 2 pm on Saturday.
