ST. PAUL, Minn. - First-year forward,
Sam Orth put on a show for the Wildcat fans in her collegiate debut at
Butler Center on Tuesday night. St. Catherine (2-3, 0-0 MIAC) opened the home season win a 72-64 win over the visiting non-conference foe, the Northland College Lumberjills (3-1, 0-0 UMAC). Orth posted a collegiate best with 24 pts. with 11 rebounds for her second double-double this season leading St. Kate's to the win.
The game opened with the Lumberjills draining a three-pointer and keeping the pressure on the Wildcats for the first four minutes of play. Junior guard
Jackie Radford put up three, starting the Wildcats hot streak and leading 20-16 after the first ten minutes. Orth led in the second quarter with six points and a 37-27 halftime lead.
In the second half with the Lumberjills, the Wildcats took a 19 point lead as they went into the the final 10 minutes of the game. Northland came back in the final quarter outshooting St. Kate's 26 to 11 but were unable to overcome the lead built from the Wildcats.
Senior guard
Audra Clark was behind Orth with 14 pts. and 4 rebounds as Radford was third on the team with 9 pts. and 11 rebounds.
St. Catherine open conference play on Saturday, Dec. 1 at University of St. Thomas at 1 PM.
