Machovec nets fifth game winner of the season in 1-0 win over St. Olaf

ST. PAUL - In the past eight days, senior midfielder Kaitlin Machovec (Woodbury, Minn. / North) has scored three game-winning goals to improve her season total to five as she led her team to the 1-0 victory over Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) foe St. Olaf College Oles on Wednesday afternoon. The Wildcats move into the fourth spot in the MIAC standings with the win as they wait for their seeding fate to be determined after Saturday's game against Hamline at home. 

The Wildcats are now 9-3-2 overall and 6-2-2 in conference play as they picked up their fourth consecutive MIAC postseason berth with their win over Gustavus Adolphus last week. Today's opponent from Northfield was against another conference team awaiting their seeding fate are now sitting in the sixth place spot with one game remaining on their schedule against Augsburg on Saturday, who is currently sitting in third place in the conference standings. 

Both teams entered Wednesday's game coming off big wins against conference rivals as Gustavus feel to St. Kate's and St. Thomas fell to the Oles. 

With the lone goal of the game Machovec collected her fifth game-winner of the season in the 10th minute with an assist from junior midfielder Alyssa Siljendahl (Duluth, Minn. / Hermantown). Machovec and Siljendahl are the same duo to pick up the game-winner against Gustavus last week. 

With seven shots in the game, junior forward Allie Bird (Maple Grove, Minn.) was the game leader with two on goal. Junior goalkeeper Tayler Koop (Blaine, Minn.) picked up her fourth shutout of the season facing just one shot on goal in the game. 

Machovec and company will look to extend the hot streak as they head into senior day on Saturday against Hamline at home on Saturday at 1 pm. The Pipers are currently sitting in last place in the MIAC standings with a conference record of 1-8-1.
