ST. PAUL, MINN. – The St. Catherine University softball team found the perfect way to bounce back from a three-game losing skid. The Wildcats swept Wartburg College Tuesday afternoon, earning their first doubleheader sweep of the season.
St. Kate's is looking for two more sweeps this weekend when the team hosts Saint Mary's University and St. Olaf College on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's game against Saint Mary's will serve not only as the Wildcats home opener, but as their Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) opener as well.
Last season, St. Kate's qualified as the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament thanks to a 15-7 record in MIAC play. However, two of their seven losses did come at the hands of the Cardinals and Oles. The Wildcats opened MIAC play with back-to-back splits against Saint Mary's and St. Olaf. In fact, St. Kate's split three of its first four series against conference opponents before going on a 10-0 winning streak against MIAC opponents.
Live stats for Saturday and Sunday's doubleheaders will both be available on St. Kate's website. Score updates will also be made on the Wildcats official Twitter page (@stkateswildcats) for those unable to attend the games in person.
