Volleyball goes for third straight win at St. Olaf

ST. PAUL, MINN. – The St. Catherine University volleyball team ended last week on a high note. The Wildcats won back-to-back matches in dominating fashion, sweeping both Crown and Macalester 3-0 on Friday and Saturday. Wednesday night, St. Kate's will try to extend its winning streak to three as it takes on St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota.

The Oles may be the most surprising team in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) this season. St. Olaf is tied for fifth in the MIAC standings, just one year after finishing in last place with just one conference win. However, the Oles are coming off their first MIAC loss of the season, while the Wildcats are coming off their first win.

Live stats and video will be available for fans who can't make the drive down to Northfield and score updates will be posted to St. Kate's official Twitter page (@stkateswildcats).

Here are the five facts to know before first serve at 7 p.m. tonight:

.220 – The Wildcats played their best two matches of the season over the weekend, especially in Friday evening's win over Crown. St. Kate's hit .220 as a team against the Storm, with 42 kills and just 16 errors on 118 attempts. Mackenzie Peper (Osceola, Wis. / Osceola) led the team with 10 kills in the match.

14 – The Wildcats were also outstanding defensively in the 3-0 (25-11, 25-20, 25-20) win over Crown. Larissa Kisch (Oakdale, Minn. / Cretin-Derham Hall) and Bailey Brownlee (Buffalo, Minn. / Buffalo) each tallied 14 digs in the win, which accounted for approximately half of St. Kate's digs in the match. Brownlee also set a new career high in the statistical category.

7 – As they have been all season, the Wildcats continued to be one of the top serving teams in the MIAC, as they dominated from the serving line in a 3-0 (25-23, 25-15, 25-18) win over Macalester on Saturday. St. Kate's had seven aces in the three-set match, three of which came from middle blocker Kelly Breuer (St. Paul, Minn. / St. Croix Lutheran). All season long, Breuer has lead the MIAC in aces/set average (.51) and also leads the conference in total service aces (34).

23 – Breuer is not just dominant from the serving line. This season, the sophomore has tallied conference-leading 23 blocks against MIAC opponents this season. Fellow middle blocker Hannah Flatness (Elk River, Wis. / Elk River) ranks 11th in the conference with 16 total blocks against MIAC opponents.

2 – Two St. Olaf student-athletes lead the MIAC in multiple statistical categories this season. Lauren Rewers leads the conference in both kills and kills/set overall (293, 3.66) and against MIAC opponents (88, 4.00), while setter Lexi Wall leads in overall assists (947) and conference assists (241).
