Basketball set for rematch against Augsburg

ST. PAUL, MINN. – On December 10, the St. Catherine University basketball team played one of its most thrilling games of the 2016-17 season. The Wildcats, then 1-2 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play, were looking to get back to .500 with a win against Augsburg College. St. Kate's managed to do just that, beating Augsburg 93-91 in overtime on a buzzer beater by Audra Clark (Kenyon, Minn. / Kenyon-Wanamingo).

Fast forward to January 28, 2017. The Wildcats will again face the Auggies with the hopes of getting back to .500 in MIAC play. This time, though, the game will take place at Augsburg College in the Si Melby Hall at 3 p.m.

Live stats and video will be available during the game, for those who can't make it to Minneapolis. Score updates will also be made on St. Kate's official Twitter page (@stkateswildcats).

Here are the five facts to know before Saturday's tipoff:

0.01 – The last time these two teams met, St. Kate's and Augsburg needed five extra minutes to determine the winner. The game, quite literally, came down to the wire. After Tamara McElmore made one of two free throws to tie the game, the Wildcats only had five seconds to take the lead for good. As Holt brought the ball up the court, she was swarmed by Auggies, assuming she was going to take the final shot. However, just as time was about to expire, Holt dished the ball to a wide-open Clark under the basket, who made the game-winning layup just as the buzzer sounded.

5 – Five Wildcats scored in double-digits in the last meeting between St. Kate's and Augsburg. Alexis Garcia (Minnetonka, Minn. / Hopkins) led the team with 21 points, while fellow senior LaShay Holt (Minneapolis, Minn. / Humboldt) added 20. Clark scored 19 and both Mari Lee (Dawson, Minn. / Dawson-Boyd) and Danica Cambrice (Minneapolis, Minn. / St. Croix Lutheran) added 13 each.

14 – Holt didn't just score 20 points in that December game. She also pulled in 14 rebounds, two off her career high of 16. Since then, Holt has been the top-rebounder on the team with 133 total this season, bringing her career total to 743, second most in school history.

2 – The Auggies have won two of their last three games against MIAC opponents. Last Wednesday, Augsburg beat Macalester 76-64 before losing to St. Thomas on Saturday by a score of 89-63. The team then rebounded with an 83-71 win over Hamline to open this week.

14.6 – The Auggies are the top team in the MIAC when it comes to offensive rebounds. The team currently averaged 14.6 per game, the highest number in the conference. St. Kate's averages just 11.5 offensive rebounds per game against MIAC opponents and 10.9 offensive rebounds overall.
