ST. PAUL, MINN. – The busy week continues for the St. Catherine University softball team. Just two days after facing the ranked University of St. Thomas, St. Kate's will host the Carleton College Knights in another Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) doubleheader a today, Thursday April 14, at 3:30 p.m. at St. Kate's field.
The Wildcats are coming off their most exciting split of the season after handing the Tommies their first conference loss of the year in a 1-0 game one victory. St. Kate's fell in the second game 5-2, and the team is itching to get back on the winning track against Carleton.
With just a few hours left before game time, check out these five facts about the Wildcats this season:
7 – Sophomore
Claire Woebke (Bloomington, Minn. / Jefferson) leads St. Kate's in sacrifice bunts. The Wildcats second baseman has put down seven sacrifice bunts this season, while her teammate
Ashley Sis (Brooklyn Park, Minn. / Osseo) leads the team in sacrifice flies (2).
1st and 4th – St. Kate's fielding percentage of .975 is the top in the MIAC and the fourth best fielding percentage in all of Division III. The Wildcats have played stellar defense this season and have committed just 16 errors. Messiah College holds the top fielding percentage in the country at .977.
1.79 – St. Kate's team earned run average (ERA) of 1.79 is the second lowest in the MIAC this season. The team is led by sophomore
Krista Flugstad (Bloomington, Minn. / Jefferson), who's 1.10 ERA is not only the lowest on the team, but in the MIAC as well.
Megan Lindenfelser (Nowthen, Minn. / Anoka) is second on the team and fourth in the conference with a 1.98 ERA, and
Kailee Berquam (Kenyon, Minn. / Kenyon-Wanamingo) rounds out the staff with an ERA of 3.82.
.037 – Senior shortstop
Robyn Rohr (Lakeville, Minn. / Lakeville North) is fourth in the MIAC with a .481 batting average this 2016 season. She is just .037 ticks behind Carleton's Anna Lauko, who leads the conference with a .518 batting average this season.
2 – Lauko not only leads the MIAC in batting average. The lefty slapper is also one of the best runners in the conference, with 14 stolen bases to her name this season.
