Wildcats open conference play against Saint Mary's on Sunday

ST. PAUL, MINN. – For 13 straight games, the St. Catherine University softball team has found a way to win. They plan to keep finding those winning ways this Sunday when they opening Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play against the Saint Mary's University Cardinals.

The Wildcats will travel to Winona, Minnesota for their opening conference game, which was originally scheduled to be played on Saturday. Due to inclement weather, though, the game was moved to Sunday, April 3, with game one starting at 1 p.m.

Now, there are 24 extra hours to read up on the Wildcats before first pitch on Sunday:

13 – St. Kate's won a 13 inning thriller against UW-River Falls on Tuesday to improve their record to 13-0. The Wildcats had to come from behind four times to win the game, as they were down 1-0 with six outs left in the game, 3-1 in the ninth, 4-3 in the tenth, and 6-4 in the thirteenth.

1 – St. Kate's is the only undefeated team in the latest edition of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) poll. After breaking through in the rankings last week, the Wildcats moved up two spots to No. 18 in the latest poll.

2 – Both Krista Flugstad (Bloomington, Minn. / Jefferson) and Megan Lindenfelser (Nowthen, Minn. / Anoka) are statistically two of the top pitchers in the MIAC. Flugstad has the lowest earned run average (ERA) in the MIAC at .43, and Lindenfelser is just two places behind her with the third lowest at 1.33. The two pitchers are ranked third and fourth in the conference in strikeouts (Flugstad with 58, Lindenfelser with 52) and both are tied for third in wins.

.579 – Saint Mary's Mariah Harper has the top batting average in the MIAC at .579. The senior infielder has helped the Cardinals get off to an 11-5 with 22 hits, 13 runs, and 12 RBI in 16 games.

8 – St. Kate's scored eight runs in their doubleheader against Saint Mary's last season. The Wildcats opened with a 6-0 win, then followed up with a 2-0 victory in game two to sweep the Cardinals and guarantee the best record in program history.

Bonus Number: 2 - Flugstad won her second MIAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week award on Monday after spectacular performances on the team's spring trip to Florida. The sophomore ace gave up just one run in over 24 inning of work in the sunshine state and struck out a season high 13 batters in a thrilling 2-1 victory over Fontbonne University. She was also nominated for DIII Softball HERO of the Week for her spring break performances.

Both games of the doubleheader will be available via live stats and updates will be frequently posted to the St. Kate's Twitter account.
