Box ScoreThe St. Catherine University tennis team needed just one more Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) win in order to clinch its fifth-consecutive postseason berth. On their home tennis courts for an outdoor match at St. Kate's for the first time in three years, the Wildcats solidified their spot in the conference playoffs with a 8-1 victory over Bethel University Saturday morning in St. Paul.
The Wildcats opened up with a clean sweep of the doubles matches with
Alicia Knoll (Waseca, Minn./Waseca) and
Jessica Duda (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) claiming the top win at No. 3 doubles with a 8-2 decision over Kourtney Jakubic and Larissa Voss.
Maria Koval (Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame Academy) and Angie Lorenzen (Mitchell, S.D.) then finished off Maddy Simpson and Mattie Kidder 8-6 at the No. 3 spot. At No. 1 doubles,
Kylie Ketcho (Eden Prairie, Minn./Academy of Holy Angels) and
Mikinzee Salo (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd) scored a 8-4 victory over Kristin Vivian and Abby Kreklau. With the win, the pair improved to 9-0 on the season against MIAC opponents.
In singles, the Wildcats continued to cruise with Ketcho scoring the top win at No. 3 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 against Jakubic. Koval also added another win to her impressive career record with an easy 6-3, 6-0 defeat of Vivian at the No. 1 singles spot.
Knoll took down Kidder 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 4 spot, while Lorenzen scored a 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 5 spot over Voss. Salo recorded the final Wildcat win as she defeated Kreklau 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.
With the win, the Wildcats improve to 10-6 overall and 5-4 in the MIAC. They will await their postseason seeding based on the outcome of Sunday's match against the College of Saint Benedict and the remainder of the MIAC regular season matches. The Wildcats conclude the regular season against the Blazers at 10:30 a.m. at the Lakeville Lifetime Fitness in Lakeville, Minnesota.
