Box Score Since she arrived on campus as a first-year,
Maria Koval (Green Bay, Wis./Notrw Dame Academy) immediately made an impact on the St. Catherine University tennis team and has been an integral part of the program's success over the last four seasons. And Friday, her hard work reached a new milestone as she did something very few collegiate tennis players do as she recorded her 100th career dual match win during doubles play of the Wildcats' 9-0 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) victory over Concordia College at the University of Minnesota Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis.
In doubles play, Koval and
Alicia Knoll (Waseca, Minn./Waseca) defeated Brittany Glatt and Kendra Stoick 8-1 at No. 2 doubles which allowed Koval to move to 54-16 in career doubles wins. Combined with her previous 46 singles win, the senior eclipsed the 100-win mark to lead the Wildcats in a solid win over the Cobbers.
At No. 1 singles, Koval easily scored her 101st career win as took down Glatt with an impressive 6-0, 6-0 decision – her third of the season – to improve to 8-7 overall and 6-2 in the MIAC for singles matches this season. She is also 10-5 this season in doubles and 6-2 in conference play.
The Wildcats swept the remainder of the doubles matches as
Kylie Ketcho (Eden Prairie, Minn./Academy of Holy Angels) and
Mikinzee Salo (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd) defeated Jade Hasletine and Taylor Peterson 8-0, while
Jessica Duda (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) and
Julia Sporer (Rogers, Minn./Rogers) took down Liz Elton and Susan Zniewski by the same score at No. 3 doubles.
Ketcho scored the second-best singles win of the day taking down Stoick 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 3 spot. Salo was also solid at No. 2 singles with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Hasletine. Knoll easily defeated Morgan Sawatzke 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4 singles, while Duda scored a solid 6-1, 6-2 win over Elton at the No. 6 spot. Sporer had to fight a bit but eventually won 6-2, 6-4 against Zniewski at No. 5 singles.
With the win, the Wildcats improve to 9-6 on the season and 4-4 in the MIAC. The Wildcats are scheduled to take on Bethel University next Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Kate's, before concluding the regular season Sunday against the College of Saint Benedict at home at 10:30 a.m.
