The St. Catherine University hockey team hoped its luck would change on day two of a tough Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) series on the road with Concordia College after suffering a narrow loss Friday evening. Despite outshooting the Cobbers, the Wildcats couldn't find a way to get on the board in suffering a 3-0 loss Saturday afternoon in Moorhead, Minnesota.Â
The Wildcats brought significantly more offense Saturday pouring 30 shots on goal with 15 coming on six power play opportunities. However, the Cobbers' Andrea Klug kept the Wildcats off the scoreboard to pick up her fourth-straight shutout of the early MIAC season.Â
Much like game one, the Wildcats held off the Cobbers through nearly two periods of play until Amber Schaack got the Cobbers on the board with just 1:32 seconds remaining in the second.Â
The Cobbers built their lead to 2-0 at 9:19 of the third when Kayla Nack scored her first of the season beating Wildcat goalie
Abbi White (Wyoming, Minn./Forest Lake). The final Cobber goal came with 1:01 remaining in the game on a shot from Ellen Rethswitch.Â
White recorded 22 saves in goal for the Wildcats, while
Jordan Solheim (Thief River Falls, Minn./Thief River Falls) led the offense with six shots on goal. First-year
Tori Thompson (Rochester, Minn./John Marshall) recorded five shots on goal and senior
Randi Fabsits (Tinley Park, Ill./Victor J. Andrew) had four.Â
With the loss the Wildcats fall to 0-5-2 on the season and 0-4-0 in the MIAC. They will take a week off for the Thanksgiving holiday before returning to action for the final series of 2015 against Bethel University. The Wildcats will host the Royals Thursday, Dec. 2 at 7:30 p.m. at Drake Arena before traveling Friday night to face the Royals at 7 p.m. in Blaine, Minnesota.Â
