Wildcats have solid outing at Seven Sisters Championship

Results

The St. Catherine University cross country team has had a strong start to the 2015 season and with one meet left before the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Championships, the squad hoped it could compile one more solid outing to head into the meet with confidence. Thanks to four personal record (PR) finishes, the Wildcats got just the performance they needed with a sixth-place team finish at the Seven Sisters Championships at Haverford college Sunday in Haverford, Pennsylvania.

Courtney Kirkeide (Greenbush, Minn./Greenbush-Middle River) was the Wildcats' top finisher for the third meet in a row clocking a time of 24:15.6 that was good enough for 20th place and just off her PR set earlier this season.

A trio of runners claimed spots 2-3-4 for the Wildcats with Shannon Strickland (Rochester, Minn./Lourdes) crossing the line for the Wildcats with a time of 24:59.1 to finish 37th overall. She was followed closely by newcomer Bryana Waage (Valencia, Calif./Hart) who finished the 6,000-meter course in 24:59.8 in 39th place. Waage's time now ranks 24th all-time at St. Kate's, while Catherine Degen (Rochester, Minn./Lourdes) was just behind at 25:00.8 that was 40th overall and ranks No. 25 all-time at St. Kate's.

The fifth Wildcats finisher and point-getter was Jackie Brine-Doyle (Merrifield, Minn./Pequot Lakes) who recorded a PR time of 25:11.4 to place 45th overall. Marie Morrier (Hudson, N.H./Academy for Science and Design) was the sixth Wildcat finisher to finish in the top 50 with a time of 25:21.5 in 49th-place, while Ellie Cardinal (Burnsville, Minn./Eastview) just missed cracking the top 50 placing 51st with a time of 25:23.8 to round out the top seven.

The other notable performance for the Wildcats came from Jenna Thompson (Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo) who recorded a new PR time of 26:51.1 to finish 64th in the field of 101 competitors.

Wellesley College took first among the field of seven teams placing its top-seven runners in the top 10. Priyanke Fouda won the meet with a time of 22:58.1.

The Wildcats will take one week off of competition before competing at the MIAC Championships Saturday, Oct. 31. Race time is set for 2:15 p.m. at Como Park Golf Course in St. Paul. All meet information can be found on the championships site.
