Soccer can't stop regionally-ranked UW-Whitewater in 2-0 loss

Danielle Mendez tallied eight saves against the Warhawks
Box Score After picking up a huge first win of the season against Crown College Wednesday, the St. Catherine University soccer team hoped it could use that momentum against regionally-ranked UW-Whitewater. Unfortunately, the Wildcats couldn't find a way to come up with a way to score in suffering a tough 2-0 loss Saturday afternoon in St. Paul.

"I was very happy with what I saw in the first half," said Head Coach Chris Citowicki. "We did what we had to do against a very good team. We didn't start the second half well, and because of that we never regained the moemntum we had in the first half. We are in a good place, but there are still things to learn."

Junior goalkeeper Danielle Mendez (Bloomington, Minn./Academy of Holy Angels) had her best save outing of the season so far stopping eight of the Warhawks' shots allowing just two goals.

The Warhawks got on the board in the 40th minute when Jenna Woodson buried a pass from Jordan Jackson. Morgan Beaty then added a security goal in the 71st minutes.

The Wildcats took four shots with just two on goal coming off the feet of Julia Zyla (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Trinity School at River Ridge) and Emily Hutchins-Peterson (Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo).

The Wildcats return to action as they open up conference Tuesday against Concordia College at 4 p.m. in Moorhead, Minnesota.
