Volleyball suffers tough 3-0 road loss to UW-River Falls

Box Score After its second-straight 3-1 tournament outing in as many weeks, the St. Catheirne University volleyball team looked to get back on the winning track in a non-conference road contest against UW-River Falls. Unfortunately, the Wildcats couldn't find a way to gain momentum in suffering a 3-0 (25-25, 25-14, 25-21) loss to the Falcons Wednesday evening in River Falls, Wisconsin. 

The Wildcats struggled to play at the level it had been tallying just 20 total kills and allowed UW-River Falls to hit .266 as a team. "We took a big step backward tonight," said Head Coach Corey Phelps. "We looked nothing like the team we've been for the last two weeks." 

The Wildcats managed to collect six total team blocks with Amber Zeiher (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson) posting tallied three kills, one solo block, two block assists, one dig and an assist. Fellow junior Zoe Barr (River Falls, Wis./River Falls)  collected five, while Alyssa Besch (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) had four kills, hit .273, added two block assists and two service aces. 

Shelby Rachel (Maple Lake, Minn./Maple Lake) collected a team-high 11 digs, while Abigail Palmer (Pequot Lakes, Minn./Pequot Lakes) had six digs, a team-best five kills and a block assist. Shanee Herd (Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson) had seven digs. 

Setter Ashley Kahlow (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson) recorded a team-high nine assists, four digs and a service ace. Karsee Knutson (New London, Minn./New London-Spicer) tallied two assists and six digs. 

The Wildcats return to tournament action this weekend beginning Friday at the UW-Oshkosh tournament in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The first contest of the day is set for 5:30 p.m. against Concordia University (Wis.) before taking on the host school at 7:30 p.m. The Wildcats are then slated to play UW-Superior and Martin Luther College Saturday at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. respectively.
