Results After a huge victory over Gustavus Adolphus College Sunday, the St. Catherine University tennis team hoped to pick up one more win in non-conference play before closing out the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) regular season next week. Thanks to strong all around play, the Wildcats were able to do just that as they picked up their 12th victory of the season with a 9-0 decision over UW-River Falls Wednesday evening at Lifetime Fitness in Lakeville, Minn.
The Wildcats were nearly unstoppable in doubles play as they dropped just two total games in three matches. At the No. 3 spot,
Alicia Knoll (Waseca, Minn.) and Bailey Knights (Hudson, Wis.) downed Anna Ebensperger and Lea Zuern 8-0 for the top doubles score of the day. At the No. 1 spot, reigning MIAC Athlete-of-the-Week
Maria Koval (Green Bay, Wis.) and partner
Kylie Ketcho (Edina, Minn.) defeated Kelsey Hochberger and Kelly Medel 8-1, while Mikinzee salo (Brainerd, Minn.) and
Megan Buysse (Redwood Falls, Minn.) did the same to Hannah Klimek and Caitlin Rosenow at the No. 2 spot.
In singles play, Buysse continued her impressive play – this time at the No. 5 spot – with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Rosenow. Koval was also impressive with another showing at the No. 1 spot. This time, the junior took down Hochberger 6-1, 6-2 to lead the Wildcats at the top.
Ketcho was nearly untouchable with a big 6-0, 6-1 win over Klimek at the No. 2 spot, while Knoll dropped just two toal games at No. 4 going 6-2, 6-0 over Ebensperger. Salo picked up a 6-3, 6-0 win over Mendel at the No. 3 position and Knight rounded out the team win with a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Zuern at the No. 6 spot.
The Wildcats will take some time off before returning to MIAC play against the College of Saint Benedict on Saturday, April 26 at 12 p.m. in St. Joseph. The Wildcats then close out the regular season against the University of St. Thomas on Sunday, April 27, in a match with major implications on playoff seeding.
