After being picked to finish third in the 2014 Minnesota Intercollegiate Atheltic Conference (MIAC) Preseason Coaches' Poll, the reigning conference champion St. Catherine University tennis team hoped to open its MIAC scheduled with two wins against Hamline University and Macalester College. Thanks to strong singles and doubles play from their whole lineup, the Wildcats rolled to 9-0 wins over the Pipers and Scots Saturday at the University of Minnesota Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis, Minn.

In doubles play, the No. 1 pair of Victoria Bravo (Tucson, Ariz.) and Kylie Ketcho (Edina, Minn.) rolled to a 8-1 victory over Hamline pair Jordan Danielson and Leanna Manthe, before winning 8-2 over Katelyn Glenna and Riley Menagh of Macalester.

In their first season paired together at the No. 2 spot, Maria Koval (Green Bay, Wis.) and Mikinzee Salo (Brainerd, Minn.) proved to be in sync as they picked up an 8-2 win over Hamline and an 8-0 win over Macalester's No. 2 pair, while Angie Lorenzen (Mitchell, S.D.) and Alicia Knoll (Waseca, Minn.) went 8-0 against Hamline and 8-1 against Macalester at the No. 3 position.

Bravo showed why she was the top singles player in the MIAC last season when she cruised to a straight-set victory over Hamline's No. 1 player Emily Butler before doing the same against Glenna of Macalester at the No. 1 spot. Koval  – who like Bravo went an undefeat 10-0 in MIAC singles last season  – picked up her first singles victory at the No. 2 position this season with a 6-0, 6-0 decision over Danielson of Hamline. She then repeated that same success over the Scots' Menagh.

Ketcho picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win against Hamline at No. 3 singles. She then defeated Gabby Queenan of Macalester by a score of 6-1, 6-1. Salo went 6-0, 6-2 against Hamline at No. 4 singles and then picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win again Macalester. Lorenzen picked up a straight-set victory at No. 5 singles against Gabrielle Rivera of Macalester, while Megan Buysse (Redwood Falls, Minn.) defeated Emily Fulk of Macalester 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 6 spot for her first singles win of the season.

The Wildcats are next scheduled for non-conference action against University of Northwestern-St. Paul next Saturday. Match time is set for 6 p.m. at Baseline.
